Canvas Workspace for Web Is Retiring - Here’s What We Know

Brother Announces End of Canvas Workspace for Web — What ScanNCut Users Need to Know

If you use a Brother ScanNCut machine, there’s some important news you’ll want to be aware of. Brother has officially announced that the web version of Canvas Workspace will be discontinued in October 2026.

Before anyone panics though — this isn’t the end of Canvas Workspace itself, and your projects aren’t disappearing overnight. In fact, Brother appears to be shifting toward a more desktop-and-mobile focused ecosystem built around Canvas Workspace PC and Artspira.

Here’s a simple breakdown of what’s happening and what it means for ScanNCut users.

The Big Change

Brother has announced that Canvas Workspace for Web is scheduled to shut down on October 1st, 2026.

According to Brother, the reason for the shutdown is aging infrastructure and older backend systems that are becoming difficult to maintain.

Important Questions and Answers

I am sure that, like me, you are surprised to hear this, although given the lack of updates over recent years, I have to admit that it was in the back of my mind somewhere. Likely with all of the other little brain wiggles that potter around back there.

Anyway, I have assumed that you have questions to so here are the questions that I tried to find answers to.

  • The desktop PC version is continuing
  • Brother is encouraging users to move toward:
  • CanvasWorkspace PC
  • The Artspira mobile app

So if you already use the PC software, this news may affect you far less than you initially think.

Is Canvas Workspace for PC Going Too?

This announcement makes one thing very clear, Brother sees the future of ScanNCut software as a combination of:

  • Desktop software for design work.
  • Mobile integration through Artspira.
  • Cloud-connected accounts.

The Canvas Workspace for PC application is expected to become the main platform for many users going forward.

That means now is probably a good time to become comfortable with the desktop version if you haven’t already.

You can check out my links to useful content, video tutorials and more at the end of this post for help with that.

What Happens To Your Projects, Pattern Collections, Disney Content and Other Stuff?

Thankfully, Brother says existing user generated or purchased content should remain available to us.

This includes:

  • Saved projects.
  • Pattern collections.
  • Uploaded designs.
  • Disney content.

The articles that I have read say new tools are being developed to help users migrate this content and that this should be available in June or July.

Artspira Integration Is Expanding

It looks like Canvas Workspace and Artspira will become more closely connected, from what I have read.

Now this will depend on how you currently log in to Artspira. If you already log in with a Canvas Workspace account username and password, you should be fine.

If you sign in via any other means such as a Google account, Apple account etc, you might need to follow some account-linking steps in the future.

Either way, the goal appears to be creating a more unified ecosystem across desktop and mobile devices – which is a good thing.

What Should You Do Right Now?

At the moment, there’s no immediate action required, but there are a few sensible steps worth taking:

1. Install Canvas Workspace for PC

If you only use the browser version, it’s a good idea to download and explore the desktop application sooner rather than later – especially as this is how you are going to be able to download all of the content that you have stored in your online account.

2. Familiarise Yourself With Artspira

If you have an SDX model of the Brother Scan N Cut, a smartphone or tablet running Android 8.0+ or iOS/iPadOS 15.0+ you can use Artspira so, as the basic version is free, you have nothing to use downloading and playing.

You don’t necessarily need to fully switch workflows, but it’s worth understanding how Brother intends these apps to work together moving forward.

The choice is yours.

When Will Changes Start Happening?

Brother have said that updated applications and migration features will roll out around:

  • Late June to July 2026

The actual shutdown of Canvas Workspace for Web is currently planned for:

  • October 1st 2026

Final Thoughts

This feels less like a shutdown of Canvas Workspace entirely and more like a major platform transition.

For many users, especially those already using Canvas Workspace for PC, the impact may be fairly small. For browser-only users though, this will definitely require some adjustment over the next few months.

The good news is that Brother appears to be giving users plenty of notice and is planning migration tools ahead of the shutdown date.

For now, the best thing you can do is:

  • Start getting familiar with CanvasWorkspace PC
  • Keep an eye on future announcements from Brother

And of course… keep crafting.
