Spotted a useful addition for Scan N Cut owners whilst on my break and the creators have been kind enough to send me a few bits and bobs to try out so, let’s dig in and try them out …

The products in question come from Walker Crafty Arts and include mat extenders, which were what caught my eye.

Why?

When I first got a CM machine (donkey’s years ago in 2013) I created my own platform, initially from a pile of books (which wasn’t really very practical or useful) and eventually I designed an MDF platform.

Sadly the price of this was way too much to offer out as a solution for others, 3D printing wasn’t a thing and at around that point, the SDX machines were launched too.

When I got an SDX the front platform was therefore a great addition but I felt that it could do with just a couple more inches up front, and a good ten inches at the rear – no, stop sniggering.

Why?

Well, you may have experienced the separation situation due to mat flop when a mat is fully extended and the mat is either needing retacking or the substrate is quite stiff. If you haven’t, that’s great, it doesn’t happen often but it’s one of those things that can make a difference. This can be partly solved by firmly pressing the material to the mat.

This may not even be an issue for you but you might not have the table space and want to run your machine on a trolley.

Well, what if someone came up with an affordable and ingeniously simple solution for those situations…?

Well, Walker Crafty Arts did!

This is what they look like when fitted to an SDX model.

PS, Lee, from Walker Crafty Arts tells me there are CM versions on the way soon to0.

To put it simply, your mat is supported on it’s entire journey through the machine.

Genius, right?!
