One of my favourite artistic styles is Art Deco. The ladies and gents (depicted in the movies) all dressed up and had a whale of a time.
This Artist Trading card is therefore dedicated to my love of the era.
I started this design by creating the background. I first stamped out a doily design (from We R Memory Keepers) onto white Neenah Cardstock using a purple Versafine inkpad (so that I got all of the detail).
Mind you, given what I did next, that was probably pointless.
I then used some Barn Door and Fired Brick Tim Holtz Distress inkpads and a shaving brush to blend over that stamped area.
The point of this was to create a fancy wallpaper that I might have seen when meeting the heroine in a nightclub – it’s all getting very Bugsy Malone isn’t it?
I also used some dark red, brown, purple, black and gold pigment inkpads to add a darkened rusty gold distressed look to the edges of the background and left it at that.
For the main character I stamped out the design (a freebie from a magazine last year) using a Memento inkpad and used my Brother Scan N Cut to cut her out. I then chopped off her legs – WHAT?! Yes, it was like a Vegas magic trick, lol!
I added colour using Spectrum Noir markers (light blues for the dress, greys for the feather boa, citrus yellows for the hair – because she’s not a natural blonde – and flesh tones for the skin) and a little sparkle using a purple Wink Of Stella pen.
The blue layer in the background was created to give some contrast but it was “too blue” just on it’s own so I used a gold pigment inkpad to stamp out the doily a couple of times and then used a metallic marker to add a gilded edge to it.
The design was then assembled and I popped a little gem on the ladie’s hair adornment.
Who’s looking at ya kid?
I imagine her being the sassy dame with a small pistol in her garter, you know, for when she gets herself into trouble and has to bust out of the joint … Lol.
Anyway, there we have it, another mini make for my ATC365 challenge.

I luv the art decor style too, but sadly missed this stamp. I must look up images as I really like how you’ve created this look.

Another tiny masterpiece John. I think this is very Parisian. The doily stamp reminds me of a stained glass window in Notre Dame and the lady is very Folies Bergere. Love it!
