Mixed Media Recipe By John Bloodworth Gentleman Crafter 4

It even has the feel of stone!

Supplies Needed

Paints and Mediums
  • Pébéo Modelling Paste,
  • Pébéo Texture Gel,
  • Pébéo Black Gesso,
  • Pébéo White Gesso,
  • Pébéo Studio Acrylics 47 Opaque Violet,
  • DecoArt Metallic Lustre – Fuchsia,
Other Supplies
  • Flat Acrylic Paint Brush,
  • Brush Soap,
Tools
  • TCW TCW500s Mini Nautlius Stencil,
  • Silicone Spreader,
  • Stencil Tape,

Method

This is how to do it.

  1. Stick the stencil to the surface with stencil tape.
  2. Using the spreader, apply a layer of modelling paste over the stencil. Remove the stencil, and the spreader, and wash them in water. Allow the project to dry – a few hours should do it.
  3. Using the spreader, apply some of the texture gel in between the nautilus designs. Wash the spreader and allow the project to dry – a few hours should do it.
  4. Using the brush, coat the project in black gesso. Wash the brush with brush soap and dry it off. Allow the gesso layer to dry. Half an hour should be fine.
  5. When the gesso has dried, use the metallic lustre to apply a very light dusting of colour. Wash the brush with brush soap.
  6. Prime the brush with white gesso by thoroughly coating the bristles with gesso and then wiping most of it away on a spare sheet of paper or another project. Now dry brush with quick side to side strokes, working in light layers, to build up the highlights. When the desired effect has been reached, wash the brush with brush soap and allow the project to dry.

Ok, that’s it for this one. Cool and creative, eh?

  1. Love your mixed media recipe cards and how you give detailed information on how long it will take to dry and even more the reminder to wash tools. Keep it up please.
