Last Of The Commissions

Last year I started a series of three commissions for a lovely lady. Now that she has (hopefully) received them I think that I am safe to pop the last of these online for all to see.

The previous two have been blogged about here and here.

This last one I haven’t done any teasers or anything for so this is the first time that you will be seeing it.

What do you think?

Now, I can’t take all of the credit for this.

The central cat design was inspired by a lovely design that I saw in a book called, “Zen Doodling Mandalas” by Carolyn Scrace. The rest however was very much me.

I didn’t actually intended to have the cat sat on the mat in this design however as I began colouring the spaces around the cat it started to look like he/she was all called up and cozy in the middle of a giant comfy cat bed, so I went with it.

The colour scheme itself started with purple and I have always loved however orange sits so well with purple so that was my second colour. For the third I wanted it to be lighter and from a similar family to the purple so I went with a blue.

Little accents of white and gold made the smaller circles stand out from the background – almost like moons at various eclipse stages.

In the image above you notice that I had started to add some circular designs to the corners but I realised after doing the first one that I really didn’t like it so I created some alternate versions, on a separate piece of cardstock, and then cut out and stuck on.

I liked that much better as it ties in well with the main design.

To finish I made sure that all of the outlines were neat and tidy and as a final touch I applied a dot of clear gloss to each of the mini circles which gave them a cabochon-like quality. Tricky to make out in these images so you’ll have to trust me on that one.

Anyway, once it had all settled and dried, it was just left to pop it in the frame and get it off to my client.

Right, I think that I may take a leaf out of the cat’s book and go curl up in a warm cozy area and do something restful – haven’t crocheted in a while …

Thank you for reading and as ever if you have any questions or comments regarding this post then please feel free to pop them in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

Thank you for stopping by and I’ll see you again soon.

  3. I love it John, it’s gorgeous. Love that the cat looks happily curled up and content in a cozy bed. The colours are great too. Bet the person you did this for was chuffed to bits.
Enjoy your crocheting (is that a word?) I’d love to be able to crochet but my one and only try was a disgrace lol. Love xx
