I have been wanting to share this one for a few weeks since I got my copy of QuiltGenius Design Tool Kit from C&T Publishing and have finally managed to get a few minutes to sit down and put together a post and video about this fun, fast, and simple way to design your quilts and other patchwork projects…
What Am I On About?
Well, let’s start with the official blurb from the folk at C&T Publishing…
Let your creativity soar with this fun, fast, and simple way to design your own quilts – no computer or software is required! Simply use the layout stencil to form the outline of your quilt with the pre-marked standard quilt sizes, or choose your dimensions with the marked grid. Mix and match 80+ stencil shapes in various sizes to put together a design with all of your favourite layouts and blocks, including squares, HSTs, QSTs, triangles, circles, Drunkard’s Path quarter circles, Flying Geese, hexies, rectangles, diamonds, kites, and more.

Perfect for planning quilt layouts and blocks, the QuiltGenius Design Tool Kit makes it fun to capture your unique ideas quickly and easily.
Play with 80+ stencil shapes with your favorite quilt blocks; the possibilities are endless!
Easy-to-follow instructions and inspiration are included in a portable booklet.
So, in short, it’s a low tech portable fun way of creating basic layouts for quilting and patchwork; all you need to add is a pencil!
There are five stencils with loads of shapes and useful guides, 3 different grid styles of graph paper and an instruction booklet. For me, it is perfect as it gets me away from the computer and introduces a more mindful mode of designing, allowing me to connect more with the process of thinking about the layout/colour and pattern, rather than the technical aspect of being millimetre perfect.
I plan to use mine for roughing out ideas that I will later work on digitally and ultimately cut with my Brother Scan N Cut and stitch together with my natty wee Brother sewing machine – and perhaps some fun “me time” just doodling away. Perfect!
Would you do the same? Would you take it on holiday too – it seems like such a good thing to take on your travels, doesn’t it?
Anyway, I look forward to sharing more of that creative journey with you as I get to grips with what the heck I am going to be doing and making in 2025 – wait, a quarter of the way into the new century already?!! Ugh, it really is true that time goes quicker as you get older – I find it astounding that folk born in the year 2,000 are in their mid-twenties!!!
Anyhoo, I’m rambling now … sorry, lol!
I’ve put together a wee video showing you through the Quilt Genius Design Toolkit and also included the official video from C&T Publishing so you can get an all round look at this natty wee publication. Just click on the inconspicuous button below to watch …
