This one has been out for a while – and has been in my collection for about the same amount of time – but I have only recently got it out of the box and had a play.

What Is It?
The Book Binding Guide from WeRMemory Keepers is a nifty set of tools that will help make light of hand-stitched book binding techniques like saddle stitch, coptic stitch and some Japanese stitch styles, all of which make for a great selection whether you are making your own sketchbooks, journals, memory albums or just bog standard hand-crafted notebooks as gifts.
Here are a couple of saddle-stitched notebooks that I made along with the kit.
How Does It Work?
It works by taking the guesswork/hard work out of measuring and making the holes that need to be punched in order to create the relevant holes for stitching the styles mentioned above. There are also tools for punching the holes and then doing the stitching including waxed cord.
It is very much easier if I show, rather than tell, so I have put together a quick video on what is included and the process for saddle-stitching a notebook for you to have a butchers at. Just hit play.
Is It Any Good?
Yes. I am very impressed!
Having tried hard case book-binding in the past – see this blog post – I can safely say that the calculations were definitely the hardest part and so to have something that eases this part, it makes the whole process much more fun and satisfying – for me at least.

Looks like a very useful product, I love the simplicity of this type of notebook and enjoy stitching, the cover choice makes the notebooks really unique and personal, along with choice of inside pages. Thanks John. any thing to make things easier all helps.

Cutting the cover slightly wider than the pages will allow for the wraparound without having to cut the edges of the pages afterwards?
