No matter what time of year we can all do with a little creative inspiration and so I have put together a series of card sketches for you to help you dive in and spend less time planning and more time having fun creating.
Today’s creation uses elements from The Gift Of Giving papercraft collection from Couture Creations.
As an added bonus, for this post I have created a card layout template that you can use to recreate the background! More on that in a minute.
- CO727895 – The Gift Of Giving Paper, Postcards and Sticker Set
- CO727901 – 12 x 12in Double Sided Paper – Sheet 05
- A4 sheet of black cardstock. 300gsm or above is best as this will be the card base.
- A5 sheet of red cardstock.
- CO723973 – Paper Trimmer
- CO726752 – Mini Scoreboard
- CO724389 – Turbo Glue Pen
- Assorted gems/dies/embellishments to coordinate with your choice of patterned paper and core cardstock.
First, cut an A4 sheet of cardstock down to 11.5 inches. Then cut this in half at 5.75 inches. Next, score at 4 and 1/8th inch on your scoreboard. Although we have used the imperial measurements from these tools, this will form a greetings card that measures 105mm x 145mm.
This is awesome as I can now switch to millimetres for the layering measurements. Hope I didn’t confuse you!
Next, download the card layout sketch and print/open it and cut the coloured cardstock and patterned paper according to the design.
The large 95mm x 135mm piece was cut from the red cardstock.
The smaller strips were cut from CO727901 – 12 x 12in Double Sided Paper – Sheet 05
Glue all of these in place on the card front as shown in the preview picture.
Next, utilise your stash to create a focal embellishment cluster. In the example shown I have used a mix of mini dies, gems, dress making pins and a sentiment banner from CO727895 – The Gift Of Giving Paper, Postcards and Sticker Set. These were layered up using dimensional glue.
Don’t forget, this layout isn’t just for Christmas, feel free to switch it up for floral papers and pastel cardstocks for a totally different feel.
Hope you enjoyed this little overview. If you would like to see more of my design team explorations for Couture Creations, or more of those of my team mates, you can visit the archive here.

Bye for now.

John, love the design. Thank you for being so generous with the layout. I will try it with some paper I already have in my stash. Stay safe and keep crafting. Jacqui
Thank you Jacqui :)
Gorgeous card John. Love the idea.
Thank you! :)
Thank you very much John, this will come in very useful. Unfortunately I have been unable to find the Gift of Giving paper in this country and it’s too late to order from abroad but this frame will look good no matter what paper I use.
Indeed! You could use any paper/die with this idea. Raid that stash!
Gorgeous card John, love that you included the sketch thank you
You’re welcome! :)
