On the fourth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, four calling birds…

Originally four ‘colly’ birds, meaning black, then ‘coloured’ or ‘colly’ the modern iteration didn’t appear until the 1909 composition by Frederick Austin.
Carol aside, I should let you know that I used the 12 Days Of Christmas stamp set that came free with Issue 63 of Creative Stamping Magazine.
A line was drawn at the side of the Artist Trading Card and the sentiment stamped in the space created. This area was then masked off and the main design was stamped across the remaining space.
Alcohol markers were then used to colour the design in.
It was very interesting to see that this had been ‘colly’ birds until relatively recently. From a designers point of view ‘calling’ birds gives more scope for creativity than ‘black’ birds, as you can see in the warbling robin design from Creative Stamping magazine.
Have you been singing over the Christmas period? Carols or 80s disco?
Whichever it was, I hope that the neighbours weren’t too offended, lol.
That’s it for day 4. See you again tomorrow for day 5.
Bye for now.
J :)
Love the colour on the birds, great ATC John x x Hazel

I love how you coloured the robin’s breast with a mottled effect. Thank you for sharing what you do. I’m looking forward to the next one. xx

Gorgeous and I agree, coloured is more beautiful than black ones. Thank you for sharing John and see you tomorrow.
