New Brother Scan N Cut Online Course Now Available!

August 4, 2018 — 78 Comments

Fancy doing a Brother Scan N Cut workshop with me in your own home? Well, I am very pleased to let you know that now you can!

*** updated 06/08/18 with answers to commonly asked questions at the end of the post ***

all-counties-craft-challenge-workshops-5During the last 9 months of a sell-out run of UK based Brother Scan N Cut workshops, AND the additional bookings for the more advanced courses coming later in the year AND a request to host a workshop in South Africa, Australia and the United States, it has become evident that I am not physically capable of conducting workshops in every location that has been requested, especially given that many of you guys & gals live in all corners of the world!

I have therefore been using my ‘spare time’ over the last few months to develop, record, edit and upload an online ‘course’ that you can enjoy at your own pace and in your own home that replicates and expands on the content of the basic workshops that I have been hosting.

The workshop, designed for everyone from the beginner to the long-time Scan N Cut owner that feels that they are not getting the most from their machine, will take you from the very beginning and guide you through all of the key features of the versatile Brother Scan N Cut machine in an easy to follow series of bite-sized video lectures.

The course even goes beyond the basics and gives you an in-depth look at Canvas Workspace, the online design companion to the Brother Scan N Cut system.

Scan N Cut Canvas Update Blog

Not in the UK or away from home? Don’t worry, because this course is hosted online so you can access it from around the world!

Best of all, you can watch on your smart-phone, tablet, a computer and, for the truly tech-savvy, on your TV using Apple TV or a Google Chromecast device.

So, no matter where you are in the world, and no matter the time of day, you can take this course in your own time and at your own pace.

Online Scan N Cut Workshop

Neat eh?

There are some other great benefits to this course.

Here are just a few.

  • All of my knowledge, all in one place. No google searching or hunting through forums, blogs, online video sites or Facebook groups.
  • Instantly available. No waiting for the start of a new term or for a workshop to appear near you. Just enrol and start learning straight away.
  • All thriller, no filler. No distracting ads, promos, unrelated product or other on-screen distractions.
  • Lifetime access. Pay just once and enjoy over and over with no monthly fees! No need to remember things from a one day workshop or take furious notes – just watch again.
  • Watch anywhere, anytime! You can stream lectures via PC, tablet, smart-phone and even through your TV if you have Chromecast or Apple TV.
  • Learn on the go. Use a smartphone or tablet to download or stream your course via the free Udemy app and watch on the bus, in bed or even on the loo – wherever you like!
  • Closed Captions included on all video content – Watch without sound and never miss a thing!
  • It’s interactive! Ask questions about course content via the Q&A section.
  • Front row seats for everyone! Close up views of the screen and other essential areas let you see EXACTLY what you need to.

Brother Scan N Cut Online Workshop

That’s not all though. It will grow!

Right now, there are 12 sections that will take you from switching on, through basic operations and on to using Canvas Workspace, however, there are three further sections coming in the next two months.

One will cover the windows installable version of Canvas Workspace. Another will cover all of the accessories and upgrades from setting up to the first operation and the last will cover working with fabric, including using PES files with your Scan N Cut machine!

These extra sections won’t cost another penny, so if you enrol now, you will get notification of when these additional sections are uploaded.

Want to know more? Great! Just head over to www.udemy.com and you can check out the full curriculum now.

Don’t forget, if you enrol today we can get started right away – I look forward to welcoming you to the course!

Got any questions about this? Please feel free to pop them in the comments section below and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

*** UPDATE ***

Had a fair few questions from various sources so thought I’d pop them here with answers.

  1. What is the price of the course? I have priced it at £29.99 however as many of you saw during the launch weekend Udemy sometimes has a sale on where they offer the courses on their site for less. I don’t control when these happen so if you see it at a lower price, grab it!
  2. Do I have to pay for the app? No, the app is free.
  3. Can I access this on a MAC/Smartphone/Tablet? Yes. For some devices, the app offers a better experience than the browser.

As a final note, as the platform that I am using to host this course is managed by Udemy, all technical/playback/access issues will need to be addressed to them. On a PC move your cursor over your avatar and select ‘support’ from the menu. In the app tap on ‘Account’ and then swipe down until you see ‘support’ and tap on that.

    Hi
When I clicked through to find out more I was shocked at the price of your course. A bargain! And if it gets my scan n cut out of the box and used then it will be well worth it. My mum has an innovis v5 embroidery machine and I know the scan n cut can be used in conjunction with it. Maybe sometime soon I will have the confidence to use them both!
    Thank you

    Hi John
I have two scan n cut machines the 300 and 700 neither machine has really been used. In fact, the 700 is still in it’s box. Will I have to run updates on these machines before I start the course and can they foiland emboss and most importantly how do I update the machines?
    Look forward to your reply
I have signed up for the course and want to make the most of my machines.

Thank you for signing up. You will need to do the updates and this is covered in the first section. Yes both machines can foil and emboss but you’ll need the kits – a new section will be added soon showing these in action.

Thank you John for your prompt reply. I was a bit worried how I got the updates done. You have even thought about the unusual bits and questions. I am looking forward to getting started now. Just need to make room for the wheelchair and help to unpack them from their boxes. Looking forward to getting back to crafting after a hiatus due to ill health.

This is BRILLIANT! Unlike many other video tutorials I have watched online which are often poorly shot with rambling dialogues that leave me beating my head against the keyboard in frustration yours have always been professional looking with concise instructions. A chance to have any seat in your classes is an impossible dream (I am on a retired budget which has no room for travel). Now I can actually have a front row seat in your class! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Hi Ros, I don’t believe so. Pricing and payment processing are handled by Udemy. I am not sure where you are in the world however local taxes may be applied during checkout – could this be a possibility? If not, it may be worth trying again from scratch. If that still doesn’t correct things I would reccomend contacting the Udemy technical team.

Hi John, same thing happened to me this morning – several times!!. Just tried again and it says not available still. Will try again tomorrow in case they have been swamped by people wanting it , but just wanted you to know in case other people couldn’t access it BW Jacqui

Shouldn’t think demand would be an issue as this platform hosts tens of thousands of students accessing hundreds of courses so they are geared up in that way. When you say ‘not available’ please can you clarify what you mean by this…

Very odd! Would you mind reporting this to Udemy when you have a moment, please? I am sure that they will be able to help find out what is happening and fix this for you. It seems to be isolated to two cases so I wonder if it is specific to region or device but they would be best placed to help.

    Hi John

A terrific idea, not just the fact it’s obviously something that there is demand for but that this benefits people who, for whatever reason, can’t travel to the workshops you do around the UK. The fact the hosting app has CC is a bonus too. As you know I use a different cutting machine but will share on Pinterest, Insta & Twitter for you.

    Hi John

    I hope you are well

Could you confirm the total cost is £10.99. Just checking as I thought it too low. Also could I ask I purchased a lot from your original site from day 1 but am unsure which section on the new rules to sign up for. I am a card maker and don’t really do 3D projects as such so could you advise the best subscription to go for

Many thanks as always for your inspiration

    Kind regards

      Hi Eve,
The price that I set is £29.99 however Udemy sometimes run special offers for the courses hosted on their website so therefore if they say the price is £10.99 then that’s the price – but I don’t know how long that offer will run so it’d be worth grabbing it if you’re interested.
Re the new Digi site. It’s more based on what you want to do – if you just want the cutting files then the CUT level will be just fine. The CRAFT level adds coordinating digi papers, digi stamps and an extra cutting file set to make a pre-designed project. I don’t think the CREATE level would be right for you as apart from a 3D project the only addition would be extra file types to use with other software.
      Hope this helps.

Hi John, Long time no see. I have just seen your new course details on the Scan n Cut and I think it is a marvellous idea, so much I went over to the site to buy it, but I don’t know if I am having an old lady mind block, but the only one I saw was a similar course but it was only £10.99. Is there another section on Udemy that I have missed? Sorry to bother you but there may be another old biddy like me who needs a little help to find things. I know this course is really going to take off and wish you all the best, you deserve it. Love Joan xx

That’s the right one Joan. I believe that Udemy have been offering special prices on their courses this weekend, including new ones. So, if that price is still there, I’d sign up before it goes back up to the regular price of £29.99
PS, so lovely to hear from you again; I do worry when I don’t hear from you.

I will be adding a trouble shooting section once I get an idea of which things students struggle with the most.
Price in AUD is 34.99 however Udemy may have a special offer in your region so it might be worth checking on the website.

    •

Yes, Cynthia. I have priced it at £29.99. The reason that I didn’t list the price in the blog post was that sometimes Udemy offers special prices on the courses hosted on their website so I wasn’t sure if it would change and when, plus I didn’t want this blog post to mislead. Hope I have clarified things for you :)
