A big hello to you all. The artist trading card daily challenge continues today with number 104.
This mini make features a wonderful stamp design from issue 25 of Creative Stamping magazine.
The design itself however started out with some of Ken Oliver’s colourburst on watercolour cardstock. I had lots of little bits of this from some play-time that I had had recently.
There was one particular offcut that look like sea spray crashing like a wave. It wasn’t until I got my copy of Creative Stamping, with the glorious fish design, that I knew what I was going to do with it.
This is what I created.
Ultimately I think that I captured the sentiment, “Celebrate Your Day”, don’t you?
So the background you know about. I stamped out the fish on the background using Memento black ink. This was more for placement than anything else as I also stamped the happy chappy out onto some white cardstock and then proceeded to colour him with a combo of Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and gold liner pen.
To give the little fishy a wet look I applied a thin coat of cheap clear nail varnish. After this dried I then cut him out and stuck him onto the background.
A mini gem was added for his eye.
And there we have it. One gloriously happy goldfish celebrating his day!
I really like this one – it’s so full of joy :)
What do you think? Would you have thought of water or the sea when you saw that background? Would you have gone for the yellow gold colours when colouring in the happy fishy? I’d love to know…

Hi John,
I like the whole look of this. The background definitely reminds me of the sea and I agree that keeping off cuts is always a must. You never know what you might need in the future! The tip for the clear nail varnish is a great idea and I’m going to use it.

Hi John
A lovely ATC, a good reminder to save those offcuts of inked paper, the colourburst seem to be a great medium and a great tip- cheap clear nail varnish! I have some of the pinflair glaze at the minute but will remember to raid my make up bag should I run out!
Hugs, T x
