Hallo All. I have just seen that Brother have released a new tool for creating cutting files with words from any True Type font on your computer.
It works slightly differently to the rest of the software that is out there so I thought that I would give you an overview of what it is and what you can do with it.
At the end of this post I have prepared a short video to summarise the information that I am about to give you.
As I often find myself saying, ‘skip to the end’, if you would prefer but please do remember to read the rest of this post if you have any questions after watching the video.
First. The software is free. We love that, right?
Second, you DO need to install it on your PC or MAC.
Third, this does not convert a font to type with, instead it creates a cutting file from words that you input into the converter, using the True Type font of your choice.
Ok. So there are various steps to this so I have broken them down into sections.
GETTING THE SOFTWARE
The first thing that you will need to do is to download the little piece of software and unzip it.
Here is how.
Head over to the Brother Solutions Centre (link updated as wasn’t previously working correctly). FYI this link is for UK users. Overseas users will need to head to the service area for their country.
Click on CM SERIES.
In the pop up window, select your machine’s model number. To be honest, this could be any machine as it doesn’t need to be installed on the machines and at this time doesn’t seem to make a difference to the software.
Choose your OS FAMILY (Windows or MAC)
Choose your OS VERSION
Click on SEARCH
Scroll to the bottom of the screen to the section marked UTILITIES
Click on the product title SCANNCUT TYPE CONVERTER
Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the AGREE TO THE EULA AND DOWNLOAD button.
The download should now commence.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
When it has completed, locate the folder in your computer.
Right click on the folder and choose either UNZIP or EXTRACT.
Follow the onscreen prompts until you have successfully extracted the folder.
In the folder you should now see an application that is named Brother_ScanNCut_Type_Converter
Double click on this.
The font converter should now open.
USING THE SOFTWARE
The software is very simple to use.
First, type your word or phrase into the box at the top.
Then, choose the font that you want to be used.
Select any of the additional two features available.
Click on PREVIEW
If you are happy with the result, click on SAVE. Save your file with a name that you will recognise and it is now an FCM Cutting File ready to use with your machines.
You can further adjust and edit the design in Scan N Cut Canvas of course.
Ok, hope that helped you understand what it’s all about.
If you have any questions about this as it stands then please do leave your comments below.
Many thanks for stopping by and I will see you again soon.
J :)
Hi John
The font converter only lets you type one sentence, I want to put a sentiment on a card using the fonts on my computer would you know how I can do this, it is a bit tedious doing a sentence at time. I Would appreciate your help, I have a CM300 with limited fonts installed on it.
Kind regards

From what you describe it might be easier to do this in a graphics programme and then save as an image. Then, have Canvas do an image trace.

why should we windows vista users have to update he pc just to use this app john? if i didnt spend over £500.00 on the scanncut and excessories i wouldnt have to update my pc it works just fine we were sold the machines on the idea that all future updates were for free and for everyone not just the select few

All updates are free. The fact that you need to update your computer doesn’t change this fact.
Operating systems are updated regularly to improve security and resource usage.
The fact that you haven’t updated your PC in some time simply puts you at risk and will ultimately affect more apps in the future.
It’s time to update.
