On a recent saunter I picked up a few magazines, each with a freebie.
The late evenings have become the new ‘me time’ for making and creating. Here is the first of four posts showing you some things that I made using the freebies.
The four magazines that slipped into my basket were these beauties.
As you can see, plenty of freebies going on.
The first that I chose to work with was Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine.
This mag was actually chosen just for the freebie – have you ever done that?
A lovely bird on a tea cup stamp, decorative embossing folder and some patterned paper was included.
Impatiently I whipped out the Crafts Too stamping tool, that I picked up from Mountain Ash Crafts in my recent visit, and stamped out the design several times.
After browsing my coloured pencil collection I finally chose some colours that coordinated with the different patterned papers and set to colouring,
Yup, think that I managed the colour coordination in this one.
A quick rummage through my die collection brought to light a simple rectangle with which I cut out the design, positioning the stamped image at the top.
A sentiment stamp was then used to add the ‘hello’ at the bottom.
More rummaging, this time through the card stock stash and I came up with some matts/layers that worked with the colours from the background and the foreground.
The deocrative pennants were cut with the free die from the Die Cutting Essentials magazine and a couple of gems were added for sparkle.
Finished!
What do you think? Cute isn’t it?
Quite proud of how well the colours all work together to tie give the design an all over theme.
Anyway, although I have some ‘me time’ I don’t have any waffle time so I’d best get on.
Hope you enjoyed this little post and will pop back again tomorrow for number two of four.
Bye for now.
J :)
What a beautiful card. Well done John. Love and Light Sioux x

Dear John
I am lucky enough to be joining you in August for a craft day but wanted to know if you are doing individual courses as I would dearly love to learn more about my scan and cut. I’ve had it since they first came out and can do some things but am not good when it comes to updating versions etc. I live in Northamptonshire.

Hello there….great card I’m going to look out for these magazines when they get over here, which is usually several weeks later. And yes I also buy magazines depending on what’s given away free…it’s the only way to go as far as I’m concerned.
Keep your wheels greased…so to speak and moving forwards, you are doing a champion job highlighting your charity and bringing laughter and smiles to a great many people. Even those of us who can’t attend one of your workshops. Happy crafting. Karen x

Love the card John and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the other freebies. Other than the 2 magazines I subscribe to I always choose my magazines for the cover gift.

What a lovely card John, I have this magazine but so far work has prevented me from playing as yet – now inspired to find time! I see you have a date in Devon which is great news for crafters near Seaton – I have forwarded your details and info to Crafty Devils in Barnstaple to see if they would host an event….. perhaps if there are other interested North Devonians out there they could call them and encourage them as well??!

Lovely card John, and yes its all about the Freebie, in New Zealand we pay $17.00 to $20.00 for our card magazines all imported

That’s very good value as it’s only a tiny fraction more than we pay. I wonder if there is a ‘local’ printer …

Hello,
Love your bird in a tea cup :-)
Can I ask where you bought your magazine?
The copies I have seen in my local news agents dont have any free papers with the stamp/embossing folders.
Thanks,
Debs x

WHSmiths. The papers were hidden behind the embossing folder. Almost threw them away by accident.

Yes, John, I usually only buy mags for the freebies! In fact yesterday I chased around 4 separate shops looking for what must have been the only copy left in town, of a mag. with a particularly nice stamping set. At the same time I got the one with the little bird and teacup. It is so pretty.

Hi John
That is so pretty, I adore the “bird in a teacup” thing and my collection of such images is substantial to say the least. Oh, and yes, I always choose magazines on the strength of the freebie 😊
Enjoy your ‘me’ time, I’m sure you’ve earned it.
Give Maisie a half litre of oil from me 😃
Hugs to you to, T x
