Been tinkering with a little something over the last few days.
Bit by bit it has come together and became something quite lovely.
The finished project was a mini canvas creation using a range of bits and bobs from the craft room (mostly so that I could start using things up WIPs before I pack the van).
This is what I created.
I don’t often get chance to talk you through things lately but did manage to snatch a good few photos as I was tinkering with this on and off so do let me waffle on for a bit.
The canvas itself was fairly basic. I just smeared some different tones of pinks/purple acrylic paints over the canvas with my fingers (messy!) and let them dry.
I then added a heat embossed distressed border with black embossing powder.
The next bit I actually made a while back whilst I was playing around with some paper clay. All I did was roll out a layer of clay and then stamped some script text into it.
I ‘tore’ at the edges before it dried in the hope that it would look a bit like a bit of an old scroll or something. Not sure it did but when I chose to use it for this project I did end up smearing on more paint than you could shake a stick at so I think ‘old scroll’ was definitely not the look anymore.
The paints used were the same paints used on the canvas plus some iridescent gold and some matt turqouise acrylics.
To finish (after the paint has dried) I spritzed it with water and checked on a tiny bit of color burst powder and let it spread and set.
I mopped up some of the color burst with a lacey ribbon so that it would link in with the colour scheme.
This was wrapped around the main panel (the old scroll that’s not an old scroll). I then added a die cut panel and an MDF laser cut word to the design.
A layer of clear gloss was added to the word also.
You’ll see later that I didn’t quite like the look of the word so ended up coating this in gold paint.
The flowers came next. Quite proud of these (before the glitter was added).
They start with the tissue that I had used to mop up the colour burst. These had dried and I un-scrumpled (that’s a word, right?) them and then glued them to some plain cardstock with some Mod Podge.
These sheets were then diecut with a floral die, shaped and glued together. Very abstract colouring!
The centres had some gold paint, blue glitter and clear gloss chucked in. If I’m honest, I’d change this if I repeat this technique. It looks ‘ok’ but not quite right for me. What do you think?

Wow! I’m so happy to have discovered you! I HAVE heard of you in the craft world & usually I look into all men doing craft as your take on craft can have a magnificently different take on all medias.
I love this piece .. And the old scroll DEFINETELY looks like an old scroll! I love it.
I’m going to give that a go myself on a smaller scale.
I have got to use colour burst powder but while reading this I added it to me next craft buy up list .. That is so freaking long it’s insane!?
Anyway, LOVE what you’re doing. I’ll DEFINETELY watch this space.

Hi John, I bet you are getting really excited as the time seems to be flying passed for when you start your great adventure. I am so pleased to see your bookings coming in and talking of bookings, I went down Mountain Ash yesterday, shouldn’t have, always spend too much money but I saw some natural shopping bags for £2.50 and I am sure the ladies would willingly pay the extra to decorate a bag. They also had quite reasonable MDF boxes, even a magazine rack, starting from a fiver. When I saw your lovely “Lovely” creation I was wondering if we could do something like that when you come to us here. I know you couldn’t do the plaster bit but I thought distressed parchment might do the trick. I think we would all love to do some ink or paint work like you have done on “Lovely”. We all love flowers and you have created some beautiful ones, I know you must have loads of dies, but if you need any extra for our event, I have loads and would gladly bring them down. I recently bought the Tattered Lace Floral Layers, and they create a lovely shape in their own right without the printouts. I hope you don’t mind me asking about us doing something like “Lovely”. I am sure Rowan would get in any extra paints we could use and buy if you let him know what you need. Glad things are hotting up for you, but you must not wear yourself out, well not until you come to us! Take care. Joan.

So colourful… I am yearning to get inky at some point soon… Having withdrawal symptoms! The “lovely” in gold suits the colours so well. I love flowers full stop and I need paper clay clearly as the stamped script looks awesome in that!
Lots of purple/ blue/ pink so that’s a big plus for me!

I live in Doncaster and am interested in a 1 2 1 in using my scan and cut . Have you any time whilst in Yorkshire I am able to drive so it does not have to be in Doncaster.
