Artist Trading Card Daily – 107

I couldn’t resist the Color Burst/Creative stamping combo – so here is another!

Again this one started with the background. I had purposely trimmed this down to have a flame-like look to the background.

Upon scanning the free stamps that I got with Issue 25 of Creative Stamping magazine I spied a peacock-esque style bird and thought that it wasn’t too much of a mental leap to think that this could be a pheonix rising from the flames!

So I cracked on and came up with this.

The swirly background was from a free stamp that I got with Craft Stamper magazine back in May 2015. I really liked the way that it added some dynamics to the lower area of the background.

The peacock/pheonix was then stamped over this (both stampings used Versafine ink).

I must admit that I did have to think for a bit on this one on how to finish it off as I didn’t want to over do it.

I eventually decided on just adding some gold colouration as I thought that it would work well with the black and red in the main design. So I set to work.

The lower areas were already quite densly black so I decided to transition some of the black into gold – like a Pheonix transforming from the flames and coming to life…

The final element was to add some faux stitching. I spaced my pierced holes out with a piercing ruler and then added the stitching with a gold pen and a black pen; to continue the theme established in the main design.

And there we have it!

I love the raw unstructured look of this and was really impressed with the colour choices – but what do you think? Did I nail it (as the kids say these days)?

Do let me know…

  2. you could just keep going all year with these stained backgrounds suggesting an image for stamping. This is wonderful. I’m, headed off to my studio to pull our all the colors and get to work.
