I’ve actually had time this weekend to make a canvas creation AND create a video of the process – woo-hoo!
(if you want to skip ahead and avoid the pre-amble then the video is waaaay down at the end of the page).
Back to the pre-show waffle.
The canvas was a design-as-I-went style. This meant that I had a starting range of bits and pieces but things changed and developed as the process went on.
This however is what the end result looked like.
Pretty cute eh?
To kick this off I had a rifle through my paper stash and found a lovely lacey-floral design that had a turquoise and white colour scheme. I decided at this point that this was to be the overall colour scheme also.
I had a digi-stamp ready printed from some time ago featuring a lovely design from the Simpler Times CD ROM from Katy Sue Designs. I thought that this would make a lovely image for the central feature.
You saw there (on the left) one that I had previously coloured and I hope to use on a card (for a secret occasion that I can’t tell you about right now).
Anyway, in keeping with the colour scheme I rummaged the pen stash and came up with the GT and BT series of colour tones in the Spectrum Noir set. Thought that these would work well.
I’ll explain about BT3 in the video.

There was another pen used for the spattering and water splotched effect on the topper (it’s in the next picture).
I did use quite a few different types of medium in this creation, including some of my oft neglected Galeria acrylic paints.
Mod Podge was used to adhere the paper but in the video I show you briefly how to create the textured outer edge of the canvas using PVA, Paint and Stickles glitter glue.
Now, I do have a confession. At the start of the video I did get out the stamping gear with the intention of using it in the main design however I didn’t end up doing that – well, I did say that it evolved and developed as it went ;)
And to sum up this post, before getting to the main feature, here are a few images of the finished canvas creation (I also tagged these onto the end of the video as a slideshow).

This is an awesome canvas love the colours and the techniques used in them. I had to stop the first time I watched to go to work so I sat down today and had my cuppa tea and watched it intensely. I really love your work and have been following you for a while now.
Keep up the great work. You obviously do a lot of the stamps and colouring them as it shows in your video a real master.

Amazing John..you have done it again. Brilliant inspiration for my stack of canvas’ that I have piling up in the corner. I normally use textiles but I am going to raid my stash. More please John even my daughter was watching over my shoulder!! Ssshhh don’t say I told you she may give up her crafting with food(she’s a chef) and come into my crafty hidy hole…Thanks again.
