Artist Trading Card Daily – 37

Had a bit of a rummage today and found a few bits that I thought would work well for a bit of a weirder take on the ATC challenge that I am currently doing.

I’d best show you this one first before I get into how it was done.

Bit of a hagfish in hot water feel to this one, don’t you think?

Ok. I did get a bit crazy-creative with this one. Oddly though, the theme for this one was “opposite” – so I’m not sure where my mind was heading, but I was very pleased with the result. I guess that it worked as it’s not a pretty rainbow coloured angel fish in cool blue water – which you would expect with this design, wouldn’t you?

Anyway, here’s what happened.

I took some watercolour cardstock and applied some distress inks AND Inktense pencils – yes, both, I know, crazy right? Lol. I spritzed this with water and then did some shading around the edge.

The outcome was the murky red background with I thought was quite eerie.

Next I began blowing blobs of ink across the page from the top corner to create a creepy seaweed look. It didn’t come out as creepy as I thought so I added a little dimension by drawing the seaweed in with PVA glue and sprinkling some Cosmic Shimmer embossing powder and heating it until it bubbled.

I then used the same embossing powder to do the edges; this time I used Perfect Medium to be the way in which the powder was stuck to the card.

As that was drying I got stuck into the fishy.

This had already been stamped (using a Clarity Stamps) design and cut out with the Brother Scan N Cut.

I applied ink using Versacolor pigment ink and a sponge. Some stripes of blue green glitter were then applied using a quickie glue pen. After that had dried I then applied a coat of Glossy Accent to the fish.

I then applied more dots of glitter to the design on top of the glossy accents. This gave the fish an almost see through feel!

Finally I glued on some green gems and one orange gem for the eye.

I then used some diluted Perfect Pearls to splatter some gold over the whole thing.

Yup, I am well happy with this one and will definitely be re-visiting these designs in the future!

  1. Wow – not surprised you’re happy with this one John … what a fabulous look you’ve achieved! Great colours and, yes, a ‘creepy’ look which could be even ‘creepier’ depending on the stamps you use. I love it – a must do technique which I’ll be using on a card I have to make for a young relative who loves this sort of look. Many thanks – I’m wondering what you’ll come up with next and have enjoyed every one so far! x
