Artist Trading Card Daily – 32

Hello again :)

Today’s artist trading card is a bit of a “user-upper” of bits.

I really liked doing this card and think that using up lots of little bits will play a big part in making these over the coming months.

Anyway, here is today’s creation.

Artist Trading Card Daily - 32.1

This creation was a little bit of an experiment to be fair, but the outcome worked so well that I thought that I would include it as one of these little creations.

It started with me looking blankly at my craft desk awaiting the muse to descend and a creative flurry to ensue. This did not happen so I began rooting through a little box of embellishments that have sat on the desk for some time – I found a little wooden laser cut and etched frame.

I knew that I wanted to use it but thought that the plain wood could do with a bit of glam. I got out the gilding flakes and gilding glue and coated the little fella.

After brushing away the excess I thought that it had quite a baroque feel and thought that it would look good around something like the Mona Lisa so I needed a face …

I remembered back a few ATCs to when I used the Lynne Perella stamp (the lady with the teacup on her head) and thought she would be perfect. So I rummaged and stamped (with an archival inkpad).

The white cardstock was a little to stark so I toned this down with some peach gentle blends and stuck her behind the frame. This worked.

I then had another nosey around the stash and found some stickles glitter glue and Diamond Glaze. I traced around the inside of the frame with the glitter glue and then flood filled the whole lot with Diamond Glaze.

Frame done and I needed the background. I rummaged the paper stash bit box for an offcut and found an aged floral design that looked like it could work so cut this to size and added a little more aging to the design with some brown gentle blend.

I put this altogether but then found that I wanted to pop a gem/brad/pearl in the corners but could not find anything in a colour that would work so cheated and popped coloured in some cream coloured pearls with a metallic pen and stuck those down with PVA.

Artist Trading Card Daily - 32.3

I left it at that although I was tempted to add some white or ivory coloured mini roses – which I didn’t have. So I didn’t :)

  1. Brill make, really classy. Please can you tell me what ‘gentle blend ‘ is. Is it an ink pad like distress inks or like pan pastels?
When will you be crafting on our screens again please love watching you craft on c&c you always have great ideas and are so inspirational. X

  2. So glamorous – it’s lovely to have a completely different design every day to look forward to, and this is fabulous John! I often find I haven’t got just the right colour embellishment to finish off a project so use the same technique as you did to make my own custom pearls/brads/buttons etc … you get the perfect match and it saves money too. Keep up the great work! x

  3. I am a little late visiting your blog John. This one is a beauty. I am very impressed by the use of the stickles and glaze so I will give that a try in the future,

  4. Wow!!! Love it!!! All your ATCs are so very different – you have an amazing range of skills. Just when I think you can’t top the last card, you do. There hasn’t been a disappointing one yet. Thanks again. X

  5. Hi John

A little bit of card with a big mixed media feel. Really cool. I think roses would have worked well.

I’m also going to have a ‘use what you have’ year. This year I hope to have a de clutter, pop some bits on ebay, make those end of kit bits- you always have those bits where you don’t have the right person to make for and a different sentiment just isn’t working- up into cards to give to charity shop and try to slimline things a bit. I have a bits box and I use those with my cutting machines- when I remember. Box gets put on table before every new project now and I check that first. Hopefully I can start as I mean to go on!

    Hugs,

  6. Love this one John – I too am going through a phase of trying to use things up this year. I’ve become a terrible hoarder collecting all sorts of little bits that might come in useful one day, so I decided 2015 was going to be the 365 one days, otherwise they will be decluttered! Thanks for sharing, Susan x

  7. Looks as if there could be such sadness behind her face – I wonder what her story might be? If I was still teaching this is an image that I would use in an art class or PSHE. Very inspirational and prompts the imagination B :-) x
