Scan It Saturday - Love Heart Swirly Frame Cutting File For The Brother Scan N Cut 1

Scan It Saturday – Swirly Heart Frame Cutting File For The Brother Scan N Cut

A decorative free SVG cutting file for you all this week.

This time I have designed a complete card front, you just need to add your choice of topper or sentiment.

The design also incorporates a trellis style background and all layers and mats.

Here is a picture of the “naked” card front (i.e. just showing what the cutting files will give you).

So, as you can see, most of the work has been done.

I worked with just two colours for this creation but you could do each layer in a different shade of colour if you preferred.

The finished card front is just a tad smaller than eight inches square so you can just mount it straight onto the front of an eight inch square card and be done. Due to the thin lines on the trellis, it is unlikely that this would reduce in size well however you could increase the size if you wanted to use it on a larger scrapbook page.

There are six cutting files in all. Each is a seperate layer of the design. The layers are supplied in both FCM and SVG file formats so should work with all known home hobby cutting machines including the Brother Scan N Cut, Silhouette and Cricut machines.

You can download all six by clicking on the button below.

You will need all six if you want to create the complete look however if you don’t want the lattice background you can just use the files from layer 3 onward.

I managed to make a quick design using the test cuts and a few extra bits.

For my tester project I have used Neenah cardstock. If you want to use different cardstocks then I would suggest something around 220gsm or less. This will incorporate Neenah and most lightweight cardstocks (American Crafts Bazzill Basics, Coredinations etc). I don’t think that the fine details will cut so well from thicker cardstocks; but do feel free to experiment.

I used the Direct Cut feature of the Brother Scan N Cut to cut them all from their sheet.

As a final thought, I had a go at making some flowers from the “waste” of the frame.

Right, that’s it for this week’s post. I hope that you like the file and will use it in your card making adventures.

As ever, as I have made this design completely from scratch, you are free to use the files to make and sell as many handcrafted items as you wish however please don’t share/sell the file or the basic cut outs.

If you know someone that would like this file, please feel free to send them a link to this post or use the handy sharing options below.

  4. Hi New to the cut and scan and just found your beautiful design but when I try to download the files my computer says it can’t open them as it doesn’t know what programme created them. I get sent to some dodgy looking downloads to try to open them. Could you advise me as to how to access them?
Thank you, and thanks for all the advice I am finding on pinterest about how to use the machine.

  5. Hi John,
I have just ordered a Scan N’cut and am waiting for it to arrive. However, really worried it won’t live up to my Silhouette Cameo. I see from your lovely project above that the close up shows a pretty unclean cut in places. Is this just because the pic is magnified.
Also I did read a review to say the SC could not cut a perfect small circle. Please reassure me. I know I can return the machine to C&C if I am not happy with it but it would be good to hear from you. Sue

    • I haven’t much experience on the Wifi models I am afraid however I would assume that you would need to download the file to a cloud based storage app like Dropbox and then open this in Scan N Cut Canvas, which you can use on the iPad.

  9. Hi John,
thank you so much for more cutting files.
I love the very superb design of this one, and your card made from it.
I made my first all ScanNCut card the other day with one of your lattice files.
Just put it on my blog today.

  10. Thank you John for your reply, on this question. Unfortunately I have another, I have been experimenting with the pre loaded images and using the same card stock. I cut out a house which has 8 windows, I cut this image 4 times and the windows do not cut through properly, first one left 1 uncut, 2nd left 2 parcially cut, the third 2 again and the 4th 4 ??? I am getting frustrated as some more intricate images cut beautifully. Is this my fault or the machine?? Your thoughts or anyone elses would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you for your time
    kind regards
    Kim

    • I have found the ScanNcut a real learning curve and frustrating as a novice with cutting machines.I do a trial cut now and increase blade depth etc as needed and keep a log book of what worked with what card/paper. You can waste a lot of card/paper if not doing this.

  11. Hello John,
I have loaded up my snc with the free cardstock (supplied with my monster bundle) to cut the lovely design you have so kindly given us for free, however once it had finished i lifted off part of the design from the mat and thought that as it had cut beautifully I removed it, only to find that it had not cut right through on the right had side on sections of the design. This was the swirly one, however the really intricate design it cut with no problem. I have found this on some other cutting files, but not on all ?? I always do a test cut and have been guided by this. Any ideas.
    kind regards
    Kim
