A couple of weeks ago I decided to have a go at making dimensional flowers using the Inkadinkado Stamping Gear from EK Success Brands.
I was pleasantly surprised when I realised just how easy it was so I though that I’d write a little blog post on how I did it in case you would like to give it a go too.
The best dimensional flowers that I have seen generally have two or three layers and separate the petals out over the two layers.
So, keeping that in mind I put the stamping gear square on a small sheet of card (about A6) and stamped out four petals.
You may have noticed the pencil lines in the image above. These aren’t absolutely necessary however I found that it helped me line up the wheel and also position the stamp so that it would overlap at the centre.
Those of you that have seen me demonstrate this range before will remember that when I need the stamp to be in a particular position I put the stamp where it needs to be on the design and then pick it up with the paddle. This is exactly what I did on this occasion also.
I then repeated this once more and then chopped out the two sets of petals.
I then gave them a little shape by dragging each petal across a pencil.
And finally stuck the layers together.
I then got to wondering if the circular wheel would work well for this technique (just in case anyone else only got the round set).
It does!
You’ll notice on this image though that using bigger stamps would not have worked if I hade used the horizontal/vertical lines as the petal would have gone off the page. I therefore used the 45 degree angles as I was working on a small piece of card. If I had been working with a larger piece of card, it wouldn’t have mattered.
After cutting out and sticking the two layers, I got this.
So, that was the basic technique on white cardstock.
Here are a few more tips/thoughts:
- You can stamp onto any patterned/coloured cardstock for a totally different look.
- The stamps that you use for the ‘petals’ don’t have to be actual petals.
- Although I have shown this technique with two layers of four petals these flowers can be done with more than two layers (perhaps three or four) and can be made with three, four, five or more petals on each layer. It will depend on the size of the stamp that is used.
So, keeping these points in mind I had a quick play and came up with a few more styles. Here is a little gallery of those other experiments.

I love this technique and can see me using a it a lot in the future. I haven’t yet got around to making a finished card with it; look out for that in the future.

These flowers are absolutely gorgeous John – yes, the stamping gear is a clever idea, but some of the stuff you have produced with the gear is simply stunning ….. the tools do not necessarily guarantee the end result! I already have the round/oval kit, I now just HAVE to get the square and rectangle. Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas.
